Downtown New Bedford, Inc. our downtown business organization, whose mission it is to make downtown a better place to live, work and visit, presents its Fourth Annual Taste Of SouthCoast, a family fun event. Join us on May 16th noon to 4 p.m. in Custom House Square in the beautiful New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. Sample and taste a variety of offerings from local, area restaurants.  There will be something for everyone to enjoy!  New England crafted beers and locally grown and bottled wines are available to complement the food offerings.  The Taste Of SouthCoast event will be held rain or shine.  An occasional shower in past years has never dampened the fun.
Taste Of SouthCoast has a well deserved reputation as the best deal in town for the quality and quantity of food our patrons have to sample. “Every year we hear from attendees how impressed they are with the quality of the food and incredible
value” said Richard Poyant, Chairman of the event.
Ticket prices remain the same as last year: $12 in advance and $15 day of the event for adults, $5 for children 6-12, free for 5 and younger.  Tickets will be made available beginning April 26th at the DNB, Inc. office, Citizens-Union Savings Bank, Elaine's Black Whale, TL6 The Gallery, Cardoza's Wine and Spirits (all locations) and participating restaurants: Not Your Average Joes, Destination Soups and On A Roll to name a few.
Music always adds to an event.  DNB, Inc. is fortunate to have Entertainment Sponsored by Regency Tower. Taste Of SouthCoast entertainment begins with a local favorite, The McCarthy, Richards and Legge Band, who will play some mellow and contemporary rock, to be followed by the Joshua Tree Band, who have become quite well known and are considered Boston's premier U2 cover band.
A major feature of Taste OF SouthCoast is a spirit of friendly competition amongst local, area restaurants that will culminate in awards. Be sure to participate by casting your vote for your favorite restaurant in the following categories:
The “Best Booth Presentation award will go to the participant that receives the most votes for best decorated booth and most creative: 2009 Awards went to: 1st place - Café Balena,24 No. Water St. NB; 2nd place - On-A- Roll Specialty Sandwich Show, 149 Union St. NB; , and 3rd place – Dorothy Cox's Chocolates, 115 Huttleston Ave. Fhvn.
The “People's Choice” Award will go to the most voted for food offering. 2009 Awards went to: 1st place - Café Balena, 24 No. Water Street, NB;  2nd place – Ice Chest Bar and Grill, 136 Huttleston Ave. Fhvn; and  3rd place - Not your Average Joe’s, 61 State Rd. Dart.
This year Pier Fish Company, who is the Premier Sponsor and was founded in 1910, is celebrating its 100th Anniversary and continues their tradition of corporate sponsorship of Taste Of SouthCoast, supporting our community. The event is supported by many sponsors including Halloran, Lukoff & Smith, NSTAR and Brenton Productions, Inc. as well as many of the local seafood businesses and many dedicated in-kind sponsors.
Last year DNB, Inc. and Pier Fish joined forces to offer a new dimension to the event a Pier Fish Scholarship Award.” The scholarship is awarded to a high school student who has a parent working in the fishing industry. The 2009 $1,000.00 scholarship award went to Geneva R. Gela, who attends University of Massachusetts of Amherst and was a student at Dartmouth High School. Geneva’s mother, Elise Gela works for Taylor Cultured Seafood.  This award will be offered again this year.
Taste Of SouthCoast event program book will be available at the entrance.  Upon entering the event be sure to pick one up, making reference to the many sponsors and featured restaurants. Sponsorships are still accepted at any level and will be featured in the program addendum and in all follow up and thank you ads. Volunteers are also a key ingredient that is vitally important to our success.  An event the size of this takes between 75 and 100 people donating their time from set-up to breakdown and everywhere in between.
