A healthy and active Downtown is vital to the City of New Bedford and its surrounding communities, therefore, Downtown New Bedford, Inc., is committed to enhancing the economic health of downtown New Bedford and as a partner of any public or private groups working for positive change. DNB is also dedicated to promoting a favorable environment for all residents and for the attraction and growth of small business.

Below are the goals of Downtown New Bedford, Inc.:

  • To represent all stakeholders of Downtown New Bedford with a unified voice.
    Strategy: Serve as a single point of service for advocacy and informational brokering for all stakeholders in the downtown.
     
  • Enhance the infrastructure of Downtown New Bedford, Inc. area by developing methods of measuring outcomes.
    Strategy: Form a "Human resources" committee to work on the action steps as outlined to the full board.
     
  • Make the Downtown New Bedford district a safe place to work, live, and visit.
    Strategy: Form a sub-committee to research, report, and recommend to the board the necessary steps needed to implement action plans to ensure crime reduction, and evaluate public perception and conduct a public relations campaign.
     
  • Develop a plan to secure an anchor or destination store.
    Strategy: Implement a plan to secure a retail attraction from a tourism perspective and a commercial perspective.
     
  • Develop and sustain the funding required in order to meet the future goals of Downtown New Bedford, Inc. and the district in which it serves.
    Strategy: Research grants available, increase current fundraising activities, develop corporate gift-giving program, and develop an annual membership drive.
     
  • To become a more integral affiliate of the burgeoning cultural and artistic community of New Bedford.
    Strategy: Increase awareness of DNB, Inc.'s contributions to the city through a marketing program.
